Galactic center of Milky Way
As a born again Trekkie (I will get back to it soon) I felt compelled to post this breathtaking film of the Milky Way moving over Texas. Here in Iceland, with over three months of bright nights, you can almost forget how the stars look like. It is practically impossible for star gazing fans like me to watch the stars, when all you can see is a bright sun smiling on your face and a pale moon with no will of its own. When winter finally comes, it brings months of darkness but along with it, a blanket of clouds cover the skies, pulled all the way from the north poll. And then, when it happens and you finally get a night with a clear skies, there is this freezing arctic cold that makes it impossible to stay out long without the risk of loosing the tip of your nose. Nothing comes easy in Iceland, even the things that are free. This video is for all of you Icelandic friends who miss the darkness and the light of the stars, enjoy!

Yeah, we used to go camping out in the desert when I was a kid, in Southern California and Nevada, and just sit around the camp fire at night, watching the stars. Camping in Iceland just doesn't seem the same, without a chance to star gaze.
The stars were so bright over our Kansas farm that you could nearly reach up and swing from them. But my childhood was not very pleasant, so I don't enjoy viewing them at this latitude anymore. In my thirties, I stopped often on the dark highways of southern Arizona and California to look up at them. That was better. Now, I'm planning to see them from Iceland, someday. Until then, the longing is sweet, too.
I just wanted to clarify one thing. I'm not complaining :)
that's amazing. simply beautiful. thanks for the vid!
alhto you can barely see the stars in my area...well, you can. but not as clearly as you would elsewhere in the states. pollution sucks. atleast you have nature as your excuse!
I miss stars and dark warm nights and big trees...sigh
