Visit Grundarfjörður

West Iceland is famous for it's breathtaking views. Snaefellsnes peninsula is known to top them all. Right in the middle of the breathtaking landscape of the peninsula, there's a picturesque village.
Grundarfjörður, is one of that places you imagine when you think about how Icelandic village should look like. Nice and cozy houses, clean streets and perfect landscape, a visit in Grundarfjörður is unforgettable.

From every corner of the town, Mt. Kirkjufell (The mountain church) is dominating the landscape. Kirkjufell 412m gives the village its special character and its also one of Iceland's most famous natural monuments.

Like many towns in Iceland, every year the town holds a festival that drives people from all around Iceland and abroad alike. Beer and music are joined together in a weekend of a beautiful sunny summer.

Right in the center of the town, behind the fish factory lined in rows, picnic tables that are filled with happy people celebrating.

Grundarfjörður

The guest star of this year summer festival was Sylvía Rún Guðnýjardóttir one of the finalist of the Icelandic Idol TV show.

If you visiting the town make a stop at "Coffee 59" right on the main road. Get yourself a refreshment and something to eat and enjoy the town's unique atmosphere. Try their delicious home made cakes.

For those of you who are looking for adventure. Ask the locals for the trail that will take you up to mountain Kirkjufell, you'll get an amazing view of the area and special photo shoot opportunity from the top.

During the summer there is an outdoor pool open with a hot tub. Who said you can't get some tan in Iceland?

Horseback riding is also available in the farm right on the eastern entrance to the town.

When you visit Iceland make sure to dedicate few days to explore the wonders of West Iceland. Beside the beautiful village of Grundarfjörður there are other must see places. Just to mention the jewel of West Iceland, the famous Snæfellsjökull National Park with it's unique scenery. West Iceland is Iceland at its best!

Now I can truly understand why you refuse to leave Iceland.. this place is heaven! Thanks for sharing these gorgeous photos. They took my breath away and I can't wait to see more.
